Lucia Paese

L’arte, in fondo, è sempre stata celebrativa di qualcosa o di qualcuno, ha sempre narrato storie, vicende, battaglie, vittorie; oppure ha raccontato di sovrani, di condottieri, di regine e principi. E questo è accaduto in ogni epoca, secolo, e in ogni parte del mondo. Ed è celebrativa nel progetto che sta portando innanzi l’artista Lucia Paese. Un progetto/installazione incentrato sulle “Giornate Internazionali” - nate in seno all’ONU e all’Unesco - che quasi ogni giorno, in ogni parte del mondo accomunano valori, ricordi, riflessioni e dibattiti attorno a temi importanti che riguardano l’intera umanità e che, come un campanello, sono lì a rimembrarci accadimenti di cui non possiamo perdere memoria. Questo è, dunque, ciò che fa Lucia Paese - pittrice, performer e fotografa impegnata - da anni, a demonizzare i fulcri creatori di problematiche sociali attraverso un approccio sperimentale alle cose della vita che la circondano, e di cui si fa testimone, come artista, come donna, come educatrice. Ed è un condensato di sentimenti e sensazioni quello che l’artista mette nei suoi lavori, un non girarsi dall’altra parte che emerge, ancora una volta e in maniera forte, in questo progetto dal titolo Postcards for International Days in cui cartoline dal piccolo formato creano, tassello dopo tassello, un grande e articolato unicum composto da minute “finestre” che ci permettono di schiudere il nostro sguardo su un mondo, il nostro mondo, fatto sì di bellezza, ma anche di storture, di ingiustizie, di drammi di fronte a cui non è più possibile far finta di nulla. Ciò a cui si assiste è un rito intriso di spiritualità che si compie nel giorno stesso in cui qualcosa si celebra, un lavoro fatto di mente, di cuore e di gesti. Dal taglio della carta, alla preparazione del colore, al reperimento dei dettagli giusti che andranno a comporre quel messaggio, con un sentire e un sentimento intimi che ne guidano la mano. L’artista comincia il suo progetto nel 2018 con la European Week for Waste Reduction - celebrata dal 17 al 25 novembre - e ogni volta, puntuale, ella si mette in ascolto di una rimembranza, un pensare, un agire; la solitudine del momento ad amplificarne il pathos, quasi uno stato di trance in cui il gesto che si compie si sostanzia fino a prendere vita, corpo e anima. Nascono così, International Day for the Elimination Violence Against Women, AIDS World Day, International Day of Mediterranean. E ancora e ancora fino a quando, come in un moto circolare, l’artista avrà compiuto il suo progetto.

Art, indeed, has always been celebrating something or someone, told us about stories, battles, victories, sovereigns, since its very beginning. This is celebratory in the project that the Italian artist Lucia Paese has been bringing forward so far. A Project / Installation focused on “International Days” – promoted by United Nations and UNESCO - that almost every day, in every part of the world have been sharing values, memories, reflections and debates about important topics concerning humanity, so as to be like a “bell tolling”, to remind us of events of which we cannot forget. This is, indeed, what makes Lucia Paese - painter, performer and photographer - committed for years to demonise the “fulcrum creators” of social issues through an experimental approach to all the various life events that surround her, and of which she is witness, as an artist, as a woman, as well as an educator. It is a condensation of feelings and sensations, a strong reaction that the artist puts in her works, into this project named Postcards for International Days. These Postcards, create, piece by piece, a large and articulated “unicum” composed of small “windows” through which we can observe the world, our world, made of beauty, but also of distortions, injustices, violence which they cannot be ignored. What we can experience from her work is a sort of spiritual rite which is performed on the same day when something is celebrated: a work of mind, heart and gestures. From paper cutting to colour preparation as well as finding the right details, are all some of the main ingredients used to spread her message, with an inner deep feeling that guides her hand. The artist began her project during the European Day for Waste Reduction - celebrated from 17th to 25th November 2018: a remembrance, an act, the melancholy and the increasing of the pathos, so as to be a in state of trance until the gesture comes to life. This is why International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, World AIDS Day or World Mediterranean Day are born. And over and over again, like in a circular motion, the artist will have her final vision.
